Summer Holiday Workshops Jan 2026

Start your children's year off the right way with some fun and engaging art workshops! These workshops are designed to be equal parts informative and fun, so that your children can create and make artworks they will be proud of. Costs & Inclusions

  • Full day (9:30 - 4:30 pm): $115

  • Painting class: $65

  • Pottery class: $65 and an extra $20 for optional firing

  • Leather: $50, 7 years +

  • Silver Smithing classes: $190 (10:00 - 3:00 pm), 11 - 18 years

  • Includes all quality art equipment and materials

Requirements

  • Suitable for all beginners and budding artists!

  • Ages 6 years and over for painting and pottery

  • Please bring wear old clothes and bring a drink and a snack, 

  • Ages 7 years + for Leather

  • Ages 11 years + for Silver smithing

When and Where

Holiday workshops are run at the 1st Cherrybrook Scout Hall, 6 Appletree Drive, Cherrybrook, on the following dates:

Children who enrol for a full day will have an hours supervised lunch from 12:30-1:30pm, they will need to bring a packed lunch which they are welcome to leave in the fridge if it needs cooling.

Wednesday 28 Jan 9:30 - 12:30 pm 

Acrylic Ink Painting

Students will look at Margaret Preston's works and will use mixed media of acrylic inks, oil pastels and water colours to create a vibrant work on paper to take home.

Please wear old clothes and bring a snack and a drink

Wednesday 28 Jan 1:30 - 4:30 pm

Clay Creatures

Students will learn hand building techniques to create animals in clay; students will glaze the clay. Students have the option for their works to be fired for an additional $20. The firing  process can take 3 weeks as it depends on the availability of our kiln

Thursday 8 Jan 9:30 - 12:30 pm

Landscapes

Students will learn how to paint their own landscapes using various paint techniques and brushstrokes, creating works inspired by Van Gogh.

Thursday 8 Jan 1:30 - 4:30 pm

Australian Birds

Students will learn how to draw birds and create feathers in paint using various techniques and paints. using acrylic ink and collage students will create vibrant art works to take home.

Wednesday 14 Jan 9:30 - 12:30 pm

Summer Holidays

In this session students will create a beach themed painting on canvas using acrylic paints and their imagination. With guidance from tutors, they will learn colour mixing and techniques to create an illusion of depth.

Wednesday 14 Jan 1:30 - 4:30 pm

Clay Pots

Students will use air drying clay to create various pots and will be taught some basic coiling, smoothing and texturing techniques. Students have the option for their work to be fired for an additional $20.

Thursday 15 Jan 10:00 - 3:00 pm

Sterling Silver Ring Making Workshop

In a fun jewellery making class, we will show your teen how to work with precious metals and give them confidence and skills to get creative learning basic silver smithing techniques.

They will learn how to safely use tools and equipment, size their ring, saw-pierce metal and cut metal, texture stamp their ring, anneal and solder metal to join the ring band, finish and file their ring and patinate to highlight parts of their design.

At the end of the class, teens will take home their handmade sterling silver ring band. 

Please note: This class is suitable for older students (11-18 years) and class numbers will be capped at 8 students.

Thursday 15 Jan 

Leather Keyring Workshop

10:00 - 11:30 am 

12:30 - 2:00 pm

2:30 - 4:00 pm

This is a wonderful introduction into leather work. Students will learn how to use tools and create patterns on their leather pieces. They will have scrap leather to practice on in a fun and interactive class.

Students will also be taught how to border their work and take home a finished key ring and a bookmark​.

Friday 16 Jan 9:30 - 12:30 pm

Canvas Painting Sea Scape

Students will paint boats on the water looking at Monet's sea scapes using acrylic paints. 

Inspired by Monet, students will pant their own version of "Boats on the Sea". Using bright colours and colour mixing techniques, they will explore perspective, line and texture in a fun and painterly way.

Friday 16 Jan 1:00 - 4:00 pm

Print Making Workshop

This is a fast paced and energetic where we work with an extremely engaging art medium that lets students get creative. 

Geli plates printing: 

Students will learn how to add nature and found objects onto their plates in order to create the most successful prints. 

Scratch foam:

Students will draw into a soft lino scratch foam surface. They will learn how to create lines and texture to enhance their prints.

Tuesday 20 Jan 9:30 - 12:30 pm

Furry Friends 

Students will create an art work on canvas, inspired by an animal of their choice and we have loads of fun images to choose from.

Students will learn how to create fur using brushing and paint to bring their animals to life.

Please wear old clothes and bring a drink and snack. 

Tuesday 20 Jan 9:30 - 12:30 pm

Clay Creation Birds

In this hands on workshop, students will learn how to shape their clay birds and how to add texture and detail to their sculptures. 

Students will also colour their clay creations using a selection of glazes .

Works can be fired and clear glazed for an extra $20 to be picked up 3 weeks later.

Wednesday 21 Jan 9:30-12:30 pm

Under the Sea Canvas painting

Students will look at coral fish and sea life and will create their underwater world. Using bright colours and colour mixing techniques, they will explore perspective, line and texture in a fun and painterly way.

Wednesday 21 Jan 1:00 - 4:00 pm

Pet Portraits on Canvas

In this workshop students will be guided on brushwork and composition in order to create a portrait of their pet  

Students are encouraged to bring a clear image of their pet along with them. 

If they do not own a pet, or an image we have plenty of foxes, dogs, birds and cats etc to choose from.

Friday 23 Jan 9:30 - 12:30 pm

Summer Sun Flowers

Students will create a vibrant field of Sunflowers and will be guided how to create sunflowers through brushstroke and colour.
